HOME > Applying for admission Applying for admission - GSF To become a member of the Graduate School of Finance (GSF), an applicant must be first admitted to a doctoral program at one of the participating univerisities. There are five universities in Finland where a doctoral degree in finance can be obtained (Aalto University, Hanken School of Economics, Lappeenranta University of Technology, University of Oulu and University of Vaasa). All these universities are members of the GSF. The GSF program is open for students who fill the requirements for doctoral studies in finance at the participating universities. The minimum requirement is a master's degree in finance or in a closely related field. Each year, approximately 10 applicants are admitted to the GSF program. Study time for a doctorate is expected to be 4 years for full time students, and the teaching language of the program is English. New students are accepted to the program on a yearly basis, with the deadline for applications being in the late spring. Information on how to apply can be found in our News page once the application is on and in KATAJA's homepage. Applying for admission at one of the participating universities To be considered for admission to the doctoral program at one of the participating universities, applicants must send their applications directly to the universities. For more information regarding the admission criteria, application procedures, application deadlines and other relevant points, please refer directly to the web sites of the participating universities:
Please note that the deadlines for application and the application procedures are specific to the universities and are likely to differ from university to university. Financing doctoral studies In Finland, studies leading to a degree are free of charge, so there are no tuition fees in the doctoral program. Typically full-time doctoral students are working as teaching assistants, research assistants or project researchers in the participating universities. Also some private foundations and some of the participating universities provide funding for full time doctoral students via scholarships. In addition, GSF has at the moment six graduate school fellowships for outstanding doctoral students of the GSF to pursue their doctoral studies full time.
